Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic physical therapy is a specialized treatment method that is conducted in a safe and controlled water environment. Aquatic therapy is especially beneficial for people who have difficulty with weight bearing activities caused by arthritis, recent fracture, sprains, or their weight. Buoyancy in the water provides decreased stress on weight bearing joints and muscles, which can be very helpful for those who have difficulty exercising on land due to joint pain. Water also provides assistance and resistance while exercising to help patients build strength in weak and injured muscles.
Aquatic therapy is beneficial for a variety of patient populations. People who suffer from arthritis or fibromyalgia often have an improvement in range of motion with decreased pain from aquatic therapy. Overweight patients also enjoy aquatic therapy by burning calories in an environment that assists in cushioning their joints. Patients who have experienced orthopedic surgeries, joint replacements, general muscle weakness and/or other musculoskeletal injuries can greatly benefit from this form of treatment.
Depending on the individual’s needs and goals, treatments may include:
* Range of motion exercises
* Balance exercises
* Strengthening, endurance and conditioning exercises
* Core strengthening
* Agility training
At Physical Therapy Dynamics we offer both group and one-on-one aquatic therapy. Â
